My personal experience at DAE has been a blast! Great atmosphere, teach you a lot of skills including on how to be professional.

Honestly if you're in doubt of studying here, just reach out to a few students and see what their experiences are. If you are keen on doing something in the gaming industry, you won't be disappointed.

stay away from this UNIVERSITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nobody cares about you, you will have to study everything on your own, teachers dont help you, one day they might say "you are doing good and you deserve to have good marks", the next day "the work is good, but you will get a bad mark". Teachers want your full responsibility, if you are late by a minute or had some valid problems they know about, you still may not receive a grade without a chance of resubmitting. But teachers themselves take years to grade your work. They dont follow their own deadlines, they might publish homeworks late at night. Even the description of exams are confusing, incomplete and wrong(which they notice, when someone points out). Some of the teachers completely ignore your emails and never reply, some teachers act too entitled and allow themselves to humiliate you for not knowing something. Here are some examples: Sandra gets annoyed if you ask questions or don't understand a topic from the last time. She can allow herself to publicly say something: "If you don't know that, you shouldn't be here and you should reconsider your career". In the beginning of the year, almost every teacher will say that you will fail, that only few of you will stay here and everyone else will drop out, encourage you to drop out when you struggle SLIGHTLY. They say that they don't even try remembering student names because "almost everyone will drop out at some point". Penny might leave the class and say that "class is finished", if the whole class struggles and isn't able to finish the exercise, instead of helping. Bert and Jasper: they are VERY BAD teachers, no specifics in exercises, 20% penalty of your grade if you named a file incorrectly OR if you are SLIGHTLY late, however they always mess up the details for the assignments, forget to post OR post late, and are overall not responsible, hypocrisy. People who are not related to 3D also have 3D for some reason. If you want to study game development, go to Breda University. They promise to have study coaches and tutors, but if you are not very skilled or have skilled friends, there is a small chance you pass.
They say that they teach everything from scratch, BUT most of the people are already very skilled, and you have to be good at most of the subjects beforehand to pass. Holidays don't exist in Howest, except your not doing this for good skill or something useful, you are just wasting your free time. Go to this university only if other game and film universities are too expensive or not accessible for you, consider this as your last possible option.
If possible, please don't even put this on your list of universities.
For girls: there are a lot of creeps and stalkers studying here.

They are forcing their 3rd year students to go school during COVID-19 pandemic. That is dangerous behaviour since Belgium has a very high number of COVID cases and COVID can easily spread from one student to another. Some students who are going to school may have health problems and more at risk at having COVID-19. This means that developing COVID can be fatal to them and possibly other people in Belgium. They can go fully remote and change assessments.
